Creativebug Creations: Ombre Napkins

Just as Katherine made her macrame plant hanger last week, I took a crack at a Creativebug tutorial for all of our bemusement! As Katherine explained in her previous post, Creativebug is a DIY tutorial site with exciting projects for your fidgety fingers! You can buy-by-the project or subscribe to the site to access all the tutorials at a flat rate.

I chose a quick and easy project that would satisfy my urge for instant gratification: dip-dye or ombre napkins. This is one of the projects offered that a beginner/novice or kiddo could tackle easily in just an hour or less! Check out some of my snaps below!

Got the supplies ready for action! When’s the last time I used Rit? I wonder…?

I chose an old Brunschwig & Fils cotton fabric with a knotty wood-like print already on it, just to add some interest. If I were to do this again, I would probably choose a more spare print. In other words, a fabric with more white in the background. Maybe a polka dot or a pin stripe would have been more effective? I should try it again!

Here’s the dip!

Next time around, I will probably dilute less. I did use slightly more water than was needed and/or instructed. That’s fine! You can certainly tailor the project to suit your taste. Usually when dying or printing, the effect that I want is for the color to be more and more saturated, or darker.  If you like strong color, use less water!

And the finish!
