Tip time! I’ve had the pleasure of working with some pretty amazing leather this week. Leather hides come in varying thicknesses and can sometimes be quite stiff. If you ever find yourself handling such leather, I’ve got a tip for you that you’ll thank me for later. Water is the magic ingredient. Simply sponge water onto the backside of the hide and allow it to soak in and soften the leather for a minute or two.
Softening the hide will allow the leather to have a bit of stretch. Another perk to wetting leather is that as the leather dries, it will contract around whatever it has been upholstered to. This will give it a nice tight appearance.
Remember, it’s always wise to test a piece of leather to see how it reacts to water. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks from the Sprucettes. Happy weekend!
