I’m back! I know you’ve been wondering where the heck I’ve been this past year with little to no action on the blog and limited time in the shop. Believe me, I’ve been missing you guys and the Sprucettes, as well as being involved in the happy and funny moments that happen every day at the Spruce workshop.
While the Spruce ship has been sailing full steam ahead, I’ve been writing, writing, writing a book, and not just any book, a book full of upholstery skills from A to Z! Every tip, trick, and secret from the Spruce vault will be at your fingertips in less than a year!
At the beginning of the year, I traveled to North Adams, Massachusetts to meet the talented group of people behind Storey and knew right away they were the perfect partners for the Spruce Guide to Upholstery and Design. If you’re a fan of knitting, crocheting, farming, or learning any other useful skill, you’ve come across their books. Here are a few of my favorite titles.
Farm Anatomy by Julia Rothman. A charming tale of Mr. Julia Rothman’s family farm through the story and illustrations of Julia Rothman.
Woodworking FAQ + upholstery = custom furniture from scratch!
You know we like to sew (and ALWAYS have 1-yard scraps leftover). One-Yard Wonders.
A while back, I started Johnson’s Backyard Garden CSA program and found myself at a loss for what to make with all of my fresh veggies. This book is a must-have for Serving Up the Harvest.
For those of us who have the time or like to dream about living off the land, read The Backyard Homestead.
And here are a few photos of my trip to Storey’s headquarters back in February.
Storey’s offices are located in MASS MoCA, a former 19th Century factory turned world-renowned art museum in North Adams, Massachusetts. Think brick walls, tall ceilings, large windows, and industrial space. I am totally jealous!
An installation outside of the MASS MoCA entrance.
I played hooky for an afternoon and spent a few hours with Sol LeWitt.
When I arrived home to Spruce, I found a hefty box of books, graciously donated to my personal library by Storey. These were a few of the many shelves of Storey books I had to choose from.
That doesn’t even come close to the many adventures I’ve had this past year, so get ready for a slew of sneak peeks from the photo shoots and book teasers to get you excited and ready for the Fall 2013 release. I am thrilled to be back to business, blogging, customers, and upholstery, and can’t wait to fill you in on this exciting project!
