So, I know that when I first introduced myself I mentioned that I like musicals. This is a bit of an understatement. When I used to travel to NYC quite a bit, I would pack in a show a night. I didn’t care if I had someone to go with, all I knew is that I couldn’t waste being in the greatest musical theater city on the planet. Well, this weekend I was lucky enough to see the traveling performance of A Chorus Line here in Austin. I had a great time and love the unorthodox way the story is told. If you don’t know, A Chorus Line plays out like it’s a real live audition. The director can even be in the audience with you depending on the performance you see. It is very inspiring for me to be surrounded by people who have such incredible talent. I always hope it will somehow rub off on me, and I can miraculously sing and dance. That sadly hasn’t happened yet, but who wants to give up hope this late in the game?
Here are a few of my favorites and what inspires me about each of them.
Thoroughly Modern Millie – EVERYTHING! This musical is pure genius, and it features the queen herself, Julie Andrews.
Singin’ in the Rain– The setting. It takes place at the end of the 1920’s in old Hollywood. Then men in their suits and the women in their hats. It’s a total gem.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers – The men. 🙂 There are seven outdoorsy, singing men…. do I need to say anything else?
Into the Woods– The story. Every great fairytale you know is intertwined together in an elaborate story. Their stories and fates are all connected throughout. Truly brilliant!
My list could be about 30 deep if I really got going, but I will leave you with those few gems. Even if you don’t geek out over these great pieces of entertainment, you can admire the talent it takes to make them. As for me, I love every bit of it!
