Inspiration of the Week: Design Books!

Lately, I have been wanting to start expanding my book collection. Now I do have quite a few books, but those specifically dedicated to design are pretty thin. I often drool over new ones that are published and never end up pulling the trigger on the purchase. So these are a few of the books that I have been wanting to add to my collection. Let’s hope I will make it happen!

Domino: The Book of Decorating

OK, so this one I already have. Actually I have two, so thank your lucky stars if you are next on the birthday list! When Domino the magazine died, there were MANY tears shed, truly a crime against design. As a consolation, read this book put together by the editors of Domino, which outlines how to make great design decisions room-by-room. It is such a gem, and I pull it out very often. This would be my first recommendation as far as books to add to your collection. It will inspire you and give you practical ways to make your home perfect and personal!

Undecorate: The No-Rules Approach to Interior Design

This book has caught my attention, due to the fact that it was written by the founder and creative director for DwellStudio, Christiane Lemieux. This brand puts out fabrics as well as finished goods that have great style as well as mass appeal, talk about knocking one out of the park! The book profiles twenty homes that show how highlighting imperfections and unusual juxtapositions can make them great. I am super excited to read it and expand my own idea of personalized design!

Design*Sponge at Home

Hopefully you have all been enlightened by the wonderful blog called Design*Sponge. I  check this multiple times a day, seriously. My aesthetic is perfectly in sync with the designers/businesses/products that Grace features. Spruce has also been featured here quite a few times, which we love! Grace Bonney, the creator of Design*Sponge has written a book that is her guide to home décor for her fellow design sponges—those house-proud young homeowners and renters who adore soaking up design ideas and using them as inspiration to decorate and personalize their own homes. And to make it even better, Spruce is a contributor! So keep your eyes peeled for tips from us in the book. Release date is TBD, but I cannot wait!!

The Selby Is in Your Place
This book has been on my radar for some time, but I haven’t had a chance to really look into it. It was written, illustrated, and photographed by Todd Selby. He has been taking photos of creative people in their homes, and decided he wanted more! So this book profiles over thirty people in some form of design in their own unique homes. He even illustrates those profiled throughout the book! This book will be one that I sit and enjoy for hours, drooling over all the unique ways people have chosen to feather their nest.

Penguin Classics
So this is a non-design pick and I have mentioned it before, but I just LOVE THEM! Penguin continues to add to this hardcover collection illustrated by Coralie Bickford-Smith. These books are a sight to behold and oh-so-beautiful on your bookshelf. I have already purchased a few for myself and begged for them for Christmas. I would love to have the whole set. It is such a fantastic bonus when not only is the inside of a book a story that transports you somewhere new and exciting, but the outside of the book is beautiful as well. I am most anxious to get The Hound of Baskerville by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I am a HUGE Sherlock Holmes fan (next Halloween costume maybe!?). Go purchase your favorite classic!
I think I will give in and head to the bookstore tonight – ha! I hope these books inspire you as much as they do me.
